Brotli and GZip are two of the most popular compression algorithms for the web, and their browser support is exceptionally good. But we have a new player in town: ZSTD or Zstandard, which is developed by Facebook. Compression is only one part of optimization, so also watch out for broader web performance mistakes.

We have two new updates to share with you. We have updated Lighthouse version to 12.3.0 and adjusted the CPU Throttling on Mobile devices. The Network Throttling remains the same as before.

The reduced throttling across all our mobile devices will result in better performance scores. Some websites can expect a big improvement to the TBT (Total Blocking Time) metric. Most of the other metric will not have a significant improvement.

If you are comparing reports before and after this change, make sure you separate lab scores from real-world field data. This is especially important when you are checking Core Web Vitals trends with the SpeedVitals Core Web Vitals Checker or comparing your site with broader web performance benchmarks.
